for TOURNEY RESULTS from the 2006 Hawaiian
Championship of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (1st in Triple
Crown series).
Once again we'd like
to thank all the academies, athletes, instructors, students and staff from throughout the
State that participated and assisted with this event,
the first leg of our inaugural Triple Crown series of Brazilian
Jiu-Jitsu. With nearly 200 competitors from around the State, we had
some heated matches, great competition, and most importantly,
camaraderie and sportsmanship second to none! Special thanks to Mike & Chris Onzuka,
Ronn Shiraki, Kula &
Tammy Gaughen, Alan Saldanha, Kendall Goo, Lionel Wright, Dylan Clay,
Shane Agena, Ahmed Diallo, the Kamoe Family, and
Kylie Akamine
for your assistance and support throughout the day. Much mahalo's also
goes-out to our
sponsors for their continued support of Jiu-JItsu in the islands,
Mr. Todd Los Banos, Saint Louis School AD, and Mr. Monty White and his
staff from the American Institute of Massage Therapy. As in past events,
we sincerely hope
this was a competitive, enjoyable and positive experience for
all of you; and again, most especially for our outer island
competitors and their families that had to incur the added
travel expense and effort to
join us on Oahu. Lastly, we could not have done it without
our dedicated students and staff from
Brazilian Freestyle FreestyleJitsu, many
Laura Franco (Brazilian Freestyle
Jiu-Jitsu) vs. Tamalyn Wasai (Central Oahu Jiu-Jitsu)
Jiu-Jitsu, many of whom not only competed throughout the day, but assisted with set-up
from 8AM, operations throughout the day, and breakdown at 8PM. Thanks again
to everyone, and hope to see you all at our 2nd event in the Triple
Crown series scheduled for July 2006. If you have any feedback, please
write, cause we'd love to hear from you. |

It is with deepest regret
and sorrow that I inform everyone that Rory Flores succumbed to
complications arising from lung cancer on April 7, 2006. Rory was a dedicated father, a loving husband and son, a
talented musician, an accomplished performer (Stomp), a martial artist,
surfer, and free-diver. Rory lived life to its' fullest and touched many
lives with his enthusiasm and gusto -- and he will be missed by many.
The following is an e-mail received from Rory's mother. If you would
like to pass-on your condolences, please do so to
barroshawaii@hotmail.com, and we will be happy to forward on your behalf. Please
continue to keep the Flores and Rodriguez family in your thoughts and
prayers.

Aloha Rory
(Flores): Portugal may be a ways away, but you and your family are very much in our
daily thoughts and prayers back home. We would like to wish you God speed
and God
Bless on your daily battles that will
surely lead to nothing less than a "choke-out submission" on a
cowardly disease. We all look

forward to seeing you back on
the mats, back on the waves, back in the oceans depths, and back doing what
you do best -- groovin' and giving us joy with your musical talents.
You INSPIRE us all with your relentless courage, determination and
unwavering warrior
spirit -- for as with all true warriors, surrender is not an option; for
even
while your body says stop, your spirit screams NEVER! Keep fighting Bro!!!
